GEORGETOWN: The Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) has allocated RM100 million from its RM2 billion Facilitation Fund for the development of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the fund covers allocations to finance businesses in the agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and logistics sectors for a two-year period.

“Of the RM100 million, the tourism and logistics sectors will be allocated RM15 million each, manufacturing gets RM40 million with RM30 million for agriculture,” he added.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the Jejak 2012 programme here today.

Also present was the Teraju chief executive, Husni Salleh and the chief executive of the NCER, Datuk Redza Rafiq.

Nor Mohamed said Jejak 2012 is a Teraju initiative focused on Bumiputera entrepreneurs throughout the country, starting with the NCER.

Jejak 2012 will expand its wings to Sarawak on March 6-7, followed by Johor, Sabah and the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

Nor Mohamed also launched the Teraju@Koridor, a one-stop centre for Teraju, with the first at the NCER located in Penang and to be followed by centres in Sarawak, Johor, Sabah and the ECER.

He said the Federal government will find it easier to develop Bumiputera entrepreneurs through the existence of the Teraju centres in the five corridors created by the government.

“Each centre will offer one-stop support and be headed by local officers with strong knowledgeable of the key markets in their areas,” he added.

He also announced at the event, the joint venture between Teraju and ECE Technologies Sdn Bhd (ECE) to establish a vendor development programme.

ECE is involved in the design, development, production, installation, marketing and distribution of audio visual equipment and household products for the local and overseas markets.

With an income of RM7 million in 2010, ECE represents the main company in the Teras programme, with the role of helping provide more opportunities for small Bumiputera companies to become corporate champions.

ECE has to date picked four Bumiputera companies to be part of its vendor development programme.

Teraju was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last year to enhance the Bumiputera development agenda.

Comment : What is RM100 million allocation when a Bumiputra DCM in Sarawak can wallop RM500 million projects and a Minister of Entrepreneur Development could bag RM100 million worth of projects? Teraju is just a ploy to preoccupy the minds of Bumiputra to prevent them from scrutinising the corrupt policies and misdeeds of the BN government. These are only two ministers whose names had been published in Sarawak report. There are many more to come.
