“RACIAL RIOTS” IS A MISNOMER!
This terms only conjures up the image of different races being pitted against each other.
What happened on May 13 1969 in Malaya was a racial massacre incited by Najib’s father Razak when UMNO lost the elections.
May 13 was instigated for political reasons to enable UMNO declare emergency rule to stay in power and then gerrymandered the electoral boundaries. Since then they have held power by a crooked electoral system and through fear and so-called “race riots” blackmails of both Malays and non-Malays to keep everyone in line.
The development of Bersih movement is a very loose broad front and after 3 Bersihs the people of all races finally got together and said “NO” to UMNO!
The UMNO threats and blackmails in Bersih 1 and 2 did cause people to be a bit cautious about coming out but by Bersih 3 thousands of people had overcome their fear when they saw Malays and non Malays marching in unity.
The other positive envelopment was that many people in the Sabah, Sarawak colonies also joined in to voice their protest against electoral fraud.
The people of Sabah came out in their thousands and made their voices heard.
In Sarawak the long silence was broken and people dared to demonstrate. In the 1960s tens of thousands demonstrated for Sarawak independence in the 1960s in opposition to oppose Malaysia. The Bersih crowd while a far cry from its predecessors had overcome their fear of repression.
