Comment on Another ‘annus horribilis’ for Taib by SARAWAKIANS

PREDICTIONS OF SAFE TRIP FOR THE TITANIC

“Najib has not disguised his distaste for the allegations of corruption surrounding Taib”-

What we are talking about are the travails of the local puppet regime within a colonial system called “Malaysia”.

Well this seems to be a very contradictory statement as Najib himself is just as corrupt. If he finds Taib’s corruption “distasteful” does he not think about his own corruption being distasteful and Machiavellian machinations which matches Taib’s? Both parties are also associated with allegations of murder. To this extent the colonial master and colonial subject are equal.

Taib’s iron grip can only last so long as he is around. At 76 with old age illnesses and any existing problems our man is just bidding his time.

He has constructed his political Titanic and overloaded it with corruption and equally corrupt politicians. Such an arrangement will soon hit an ice berg or a rock as in a recent Italian pleasure boat tour. His ship will be shipwrecked once he goes.

It is for Sarawakians to help him along. They have suffered too long waiting for promises of independence- for so-called economic progress and prosperity. Mainly Taib, his family cronies and the minority class of timber tycoons have reaped the rewards of independence which they got by abusing their powers and robbing the land and people.

As said in the article the majority of the people are still living in poverty. After 48 years there has been no great improvement in the standard of living which has been reduced by prices hikes of fuel in a country which has plenty , poorly developed infrastructures, public services and very basic utilities. Despite the number of giant dams and more promised the rural poor are still waiting for electricity and also proper piped clean water supply cut off by the dam projects.

The poor economic planning has seen Sarawak become dependent on import staple food like rice when we could be self sufficient if the land were not used for more mono-agriculture oil palm plantations. The need for fully functioning road transport system is something talked about for 48 years and for all the money wasted on useless projects we could have may be 4 lanes Borneo highways traversing our colonised country many times.

Indeed the reality is that we are very much a colonial economy with the intensive exploitation of the land and resources.

The poor are groaning under this oppressive system and at the top sits Taib and his gang.

On the other hand if the Sarawak people are going to get rid of the corrupt Taib regime they should be wary of promoting local politicians who serve Malayan parties.

Today there is not one Sarawak political party that can defend the interests of Sarawak from the Pakatan agenda to “integrate” Sarawak as part of Malaya. This is in breach of the fraudulent Malaysia Agreement and also the 20 Points Agreement which was forgotten immediately after September 16 1963. The SUPP has fortunately assigned to the scrape heap of history for its leaders’ betrayal of Sarawak independence. Kuala Lumper now practically rules Sarawak (as in Sabah) and we have less “independence” than an ISA prisoner.

Even with “autonomy” neither Sarawak or Sabah has any. Neither Taib’s PBB BN nor our local PK DAP or PAS (isn’t that strange – all Malayan parties?) have much to say about our right to self-rule nor to say independence.

“Independence in Malaysia” is a sad euphemism for re-colonization by Malaya.

Perhaps Sarawakians could check out Sabah opposition websites to see how different they are. There people are vibrantly speaking out for change and demanding self-rule. They don’t want to be under any Malayan party!
