EXCUSE ME- YOU MISREAD WHAT IS BEING SAID-
It is a reality that Taib’s long tenure in office in part prevented UMNO from thrusting itself into Sarawak politics as it did in Sabah. This is not to praise him but to look at the factual situation.
Yes both Taib Mahmud and Rahman Yakub (who committed the crime of signing away Sarawak oil and gas to UMNO) have been UMNO proxies. No disagreement. He misused his privileged position to abuse his position to loot Sarawak with his gang of robbers.
However, Taib has a love hate relationship with UMNO.
His stubborn opposition to UMNO interference with his power is not to defend of Sarawak interests but his own interests.
Taib does not like UMNO on his private turf and sharing of the loot.
His role is like a parasite which exists in the stomach of UMNO. It sucks on our country riches with UMNO but at the same time cause irritations to UMNO.
If Taib had acted as an honest and transparent CM and seriously defended Sarawak interests in his 30 years rule he would be held up a Sarawak national hero!
Sadly he missed the historic opportunity to stand with Rentap and has sunk into ignominy even before his time is up.
So have all the PBB led BN parties whether Dayak or Chinese dominated- have like PBB betrayed Sarawak independence rights and part take in the looting with UMNO protection. This is the irony of our independence in Malaysia!
We should not expect any better from the opposition parties which are now under Malayan control unlike most Sabah opposition parties.
In Sabah there is a much more vibrant under current of resisting UMNO/Malayan domination caused by the heightened UMNO and Malayan capitalists invasion and takeover of Sabah economic interests. This is fueled by the mass transmigration of illegal migrants and instant voters into Sabah by UMNO to boost its electoral base. The biggest issue is the loss of oil and gas rights underlined by the recent discovery of more petroleum fields in Sabah.
In Sarawak the PBB BN under Taib gave away a large block of oilfields to Brunei with hardly any whimpers from our dear opposition politicians. Are they the real betrayers of our interests by their failure to object and prevent the illegal transfer of our resources?
Maybe if the opposition (with exceptions) whimpered and moaned louder in defence of Sarawak it might earn more respect and support!
