We shouldn’t praise LKY too highly. He was the one who persuaded Sabah Sarawak “leaders’ to support the British/Malaya idea of Malaysia.
However when he discovered that Malaysia was really a con because it was not an equal partnership, he quickly took S’pore out of Malaysia. He did the right thing for S’pore but he left us to stew in Malaysia.
The other man who did the right thing for his country was the late Brunei Sultan Sir Omar Ali Saifuddin. At the 11th hour he refused to take part in the Malaysia agreement. It was the best decision he made for Brunei. Unfortunately his sons squandered his legacy.
